Retour, 2012 – Documents d’artistes / Nouvelle Aquitaine

Les conditions sociales, économiques et politiques actuelles m’apparaissent similaires en bien des points à celles des années 1930. Sans pour autant souscrire à une conception cyclique de l’histoire, ce parallèle ne va pas sans inquiétude. Les photographies publiées ici sont extraites de la collection que je forme depuis 2004, par une pratique d’enregistrement quasi quotidienne. Prises en Europe et aux États-Unis, elles montrent quelques-uns des signes plus ou moins discrets de ce retour.

The current social, economical and political conditions appear to me to be similar, in many respects, to those in the 1930’s. Without endorsing a cyclical conception of history, this parallel nonetheless generates concern and anxiety. The pictures published here are taken from the collection I have been making since 2004, relying on a daily practice of photographic recording. Taken in Europe and the United States, they show some of the signs, more or less discrete, of this return.
